Three things drive my passion in politics:
Poverty - I believe in the equality of all Canadians, and in the importance of the federal government's role in assisting the poorer regions of the country and of the world, while helping the poor within all of Canada, working together for the good of all.
Pollution - Canada must take urgent heed of Global Warming. We cannot wait. Nor can we ignore threats to our water and air resources. We must work with the citizens of the planet, to achieve a prosperous clean world for our children.
Peace - Canada must take a leadership role within the United Nations to alleviate world conflict before these conflicts precipitate into world crises, working diplomatically within the United Nations, while actively training and equipping the Canadian military for the peace-keeping roles that they will undoubtedly be called upon to perform. Peace-keeping must go hand in hand with development and aid, making the needs of the people of the world the primary focus of our foreign policy.
1. Economy - We will fight to protect jobs, especially in the manufacturing and forestry sectors, and stimulate the economy with green collar jobs. We will tackle the growing difficulty families face making ends meet, closing the widening income gap between the rich and everyone else. We will help protect consumers from being gouged by big oil, the banks, and cell phone giants. We will help with the soaring costs for education, training, childcare, and seniors' care.2
2. Health Care - New Democrats will shorten wait times by hiring more doctors and nurses. We will halt privatization, and improve access to prescription drugs, home-care and long-term care.3.
3. Environment - We will set absolute targets by law, making big polluters pay, and invest the proceeds into environmental solutions.
